Adams and Mt. St. Helens separately are no small feats. The Adams2StHelens (or StHelens2Adams) challenge consists in climbing both peaks and running in-between, all in a single push.<\/p>\n<h4>The Trailheads<\/h4>\n<p>You can make this an Adams2StHelens or StHelens2Adams challenge, whatever feels better to you. However, you have to start\/finish at the following two trailheads:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/giffordpinchot\/recreation\/recarea\/?recid=32138&amp;actid=38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mt Adams Cold Springs trailhead<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/giffordpinchot\/recarea\/?recid=31516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mt. St. Helens Climbers Bivouac trailhead<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>The Route<\/h4>\n<p>There is no prescribed route, you pick your own. However, you have to follow one of the two sequences in completing this challenge:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Adams2StHelens<\/strong>: Start at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/giffordpinchot\/recreation\/recarea\/?recid=32138&amp;actid=38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cold Springs trailhead<\/a> \u2014 climb Mt. Adams, tag the summit \u2014 run to Mt. St. Helens, climb it, tag the summit \u2014 finish at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/giffordpinchot\/recarea\/?recid=31516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mt. St. Helens Climbers Bivouac trailhead<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>StHelens2Adams<\/strong>: Start at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/giffordpinchot\/recarea\/?recid=31516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mt. St. Helens Climbers Bivouac trailhead<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 climb Mt. St. Helens, tag the summit \u2014 run to Mt. Adams, climb it, tag the summit \u2014 finish at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/giffordpinchot\/recreation\/recarea\/?recid=32138&amp;actid=38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cold Springs trailhead<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That means you do <em>not<\/em> have to get back to the start trailhead again on the way down from the first summit. You also do <em>not<\/em> have to tag the finish trailhead before climbing the second summit.<\/p>\n<h4>Guidelines<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>This is not a race. You do not need to register or qualify or anything. There are no fees. Anyone can do it anytime of the year.<\/li>\n<li>You must start\/finish at one of the two trailheads listed above.<\/li>\n<li>The clock starts when you leave the start trailhead (Cold Springs or Mt. St. Helens Climbers Bivouac) and stops when you reach the finish trailhead (Cold Springs or Mt. St. Helens Climbers Bivouac).<\/li>\n<li>The clock does not stop if the individual or team sleeps, rests, etc.<\/li>\n<li>You do not need to follow any prescribed route.<\/li>\n<li>The challenge can be done individually\u00a0or in teams. If completed\u00a0in a team, all team members must do all parts of the route. Relays do not count.<\/li>\n<li>The challenge must be completed in a single push. Sleep, rest, etc. along the route are allowed.\u00a0No leaving the route\u00a0and returning.<\/li>\n<li>Each and every part of the route must be covered with human muscle power only. That includes: climbing, hiking, running, swimming, kayaking, biking, skiing, and paragliding. No motorized form of transport is allowed on any part of your chosen route.<\/li>\n<li>Crews and stashing of gear, food, and water are allowed. All stashes must be retrieved.<\/li>\n<li>The challenge can be completed in an <a href=\"https:\/\/fastestknowntime.com\/fkt-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unsupported, self-supported, or supported<\/a>\u00a0way.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/fastestknowntime.com\/verification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Announcing your intentions<\/a>\u00a0is encouraged, but not mandatory.<\/li>\n<li>The challenge\u00a0must be\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ultrapedestrian.blogspot.com\/2014\/02\/how-to-set-fastest-known-time.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tracked<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ultrapedestrian.blogspot.com\/2014\/02\/how-to-set-fastest-known-time.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">documented<\/a>\u00a0in order to be listed in the results.<\/li>\n<li>All wilderness regulations as well as Federal, State, and Local laws\u00a0must be strictly followed.<\/li>\n<li>You must respect private land and property.<\/li>\n<li>Strict\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lnt.org\/learn\/7-principles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">leave-no-trace<\/a>\u00a0backcountry ethics must be followed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Important<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Climbing Mt. St. Helens requires a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mshinstitute.org\/explore\/climbing-permits\/climbing-permits.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">permit<\/a> between Apr 1 and Oct 31. Adams and Mt. St. Helens may require crampons, ice axe, and helmet.
