O<\/span>n Halloween, Oct 31, 2023, I will start for a 2nd<\/sup> self-supported<\/a> sextuple (6x) double Grand Canyon crossing FKT attempt<\/a>: 6x R2R2R = R2R2R2R2R2R2R2R2R2R2R2R2R. The 1st<\/sup> attempt in 2022 didn’t go well.<\/p>\n

Brandon Worthington<\/a> currently holds the FKT for 5 double crossing in 3d\u00a0<\/span>21h\u00a0<\/span>51m\u00a0<\/span>9s<\/span><\/a>. No one seems to have completed 6 double crossings.<\/p>\n

2nd<\/sup> attempt. Surely, this will go well…<\/p><\/div>\n

This time I will start at the south rim, leisurely head over to the north rim on the South and North Kaibab trails, and head back. Then repeat until I’m tired. Or perhaps done.<\/p>\n

I’ll have a “base camp” at the Mather campground with a tent and car. I will use a bike to move between the South Kaibab trailhead and the Mather campground for resupplying and sleep. The bike usage has been approved by the FKT gods<\/a>. I will not have any support of any kind.<\/p>\n

If my math is correct, 6 double crossings will add up to 252 miles (406km) and 66,000ft (20’117m) of elevation pain. So it’s practically a piece of cake compared to Tor des Glaciers<\/a> and the new Swiss Peaks 660km<\/a> race.<\/p>\n

How hard will this be? Well, it’s all relative.<\/p><\/div>\n

As always, I learned a couple of lessons during my 2022 attempt and have updated my spreadsheets accordingly. We shall find out if my predictions are more realistic this time.<\/p>\n
