\r\n UPDATE 1<\/span>: New double Wonderland Trail FKT: 82 hours 50 minutes (3d 10h 50m). Bad weather moved in a day earlier than anticipated and foiled the 3rd<\/sup> loop. 3.5″ of rain and snow expected for Wed-Thu. I would not have been able to wrap up the 3rd<\/sup> loop before Thu morning. For sanity and safety reasons, I decided to not head out again. Never again! I mean there’s always next year ;-). UPDATE 2<\/span>: 8 days later I went back and set a new self-supported double and triple FKT. The report is now available here<\/a>. \r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\nM<\/span>ost people can complete a single Wonderland loop<\/a>. Only one person<\/a> managed do to a double loop FKT so far. No one has ever tried a triple loop. There may be good reasons for that.\n

Third time’s a charm? Wonderful.<\/p><\/div>\n

On Fri, Sep 18, 2020, I will start for a self-<\/del>supported triple Fastest Known Time<\/em> (FKT) attempt. A single Wonderland loop is about 93mi long with about 23,000ft of vertical pain. Three loops thus add up to 279mi with 69,000ft of vertical pain. A perfect recipe for failure.<\/p>\n

Do I have a plan? Not really, but I have spreadsheets. Sadly, they have been most often proven wrong by reality in the past. How long will this endeavor take? I don’t know. It took Ultrapedestrian Jason “Ras” Vaughan 3d\u00a0<\/span>17h\u00a0<\/span>35m<\/span><\/a> (89:35) for the double in 2012. You do the math. My car will be at the White River campground, serving as a “base camp” for resupplying and sleeping. I may also have to sleep on the trail. I’ll go clockwise from White River on the first loop, then go counter-clockwise on the second loop, then go clockwise again on the third loop. Well, that assumes I make it to the second and third loop.<\/p>\n

The weather does not look good, but good enough. I presume that this will be my last window, so it’s now or never.<\/p>\n
