See the <a href=\"https:\/\/christofteuscher.com\/aagaa\/report-unsupported-170mi-cohos-trail-fkt\/\">report<\/a> for more details.\r\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cohostrail.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cohos Trail<\/a> (pronounced coe<em>\u2013<\/em>ahss) is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cohostrail.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">relatively young<\/a> 170mi long trail in New Hampshire&#8217;s North Country. The trail runs from southern Crawford Notch in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/whitemountain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">White Mountain National Forest<\/a> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitnh.gov\/things-to-do\/scenic-drives\/great-north-woods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Great North Woods<\/a> to the Canadian border at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pittsburg-nh.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pittsburg, NH<\/a>. The current unsupported FKT is held by <a href=\"https:\/\/fastestknowntime.com\/athlete\/eli-burakian\" hreflang=\"en\">Eli Burakian<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/fastestknowntime.com\/fkt\/eli-burakian-cohos-trail-nh-2019-09-11\"><span class=\"hms__days\">4d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hms__hours\">3h\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hms__minutes\">21m\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hms__seconds\">0s<\/span><\/a>), the self-supported FKT is held by <a href=\"https:\/\/fastestknowntime.com\/athlete\/robert-rives\" hreflang=\"en\">Robert Rives<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/fastestknowntime.com\/fkt\/robert-rives-cohos-trail-nh-2015-07-25\"><span class=\"hms__days\">2d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hms__hours\">18h\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hms__minutes\">0m\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hms__seconds\">0s<\/span><\/a>). <a href=\"https:\/\/fastestknowntime.com\/guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Unsupported<\/a> means I will carry all gear and food (except water) from the beginning to the end. I will have no external support of any kind. I will follow the current and official route as shown on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cohostrail.org\/product\/cohos-trail-map-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cohos trail 2020 map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[pullquote]&#8221;The wildlife on The Cohos Trail is its real secret treasure.&#8221;[\/pullquote]<\/p>\n<p>For logistical and topographical reasons, I will start at the Canadian border and go southwards. We shall see how that goes. <a href=\"http:\/\/humanityrunning.blogspot.com\/2015\/07\/end-to-end-cohos-saga.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rob<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/photogaboutit.blogspot.com\/2019\/09\/the-cohos-trail-unsupported-fkt-fast.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eli<\/a> both did the trail northwards. They stopped their watches at the junction with the 4<sup>th<\/sup> Connecticut Lake Trail. The trail officially circles the lake (my <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.findmespot.com\/s\/CMK3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SPOT trac<\/a>k doesn&#8217;t show that). It&#8217;s unclear whether Rob circled it, but Eli did after he stopped the watch.<\/p>\n<p>I plan to start the watch at the same junction\/sign as Rob and Eli did. I&#8217;ll then go counterclockwise around the lake and make my way back to the border station and the monument before heading south. Hopefully none of the famous and storied menace, the black fly. But worse, ticks have high season <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wildlife.state.nh.us\/wildlife\/documents\/ticks-biology-mgt.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early October to late November in New Hampshire<\/a>. &#8220;New Hampshire ranks seventh in the nation in the number of Lyme Disease cases reported per 100,000 people&#8221; [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wildlife.state.nh.us\/wildlife\/documents\/ticks-biology-mgt.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NH<\/a>]. About 50% of the deer ticks in New Hampshire carry Lyme disease [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.corephysicians.org\/core-news\/Ticks;-Their-Removal-and-Infection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CP<\/a>]. Perhaps I should pack more Deet&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This will be my first real East Coast adventure. I assume I&#8217;ll be up for some (good and bad) surprises. The mayo sticks are packed, the <a href=\"https:\/\/christofteuscher.com\/aagaa\/jellopringles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pringles crushed<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tordesgeants.it\/en\/content\/tor-des-glaciers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tor des Glaciers<\/a> feels like it happened years ago.
